CD-ROM drive. ³16 MB of RAM. ³ 10 MB hard disk space for Omnis, plus ³ 5 MB hard disk space for Oracle. For full Oracle connectivity: System ³ 7.5 MacTCP ³ 2.0.4, or Open Transport ³ 1.0.7. For local Omnis SQL only: System ³ 7.1 Intel(Recommended): ------------------ ³100 MHz Pentium. ³32 MB RAM. ³50 MB Free disk space for software. ~100MB (?) for datafile. Operating systems: Windows 3.11 Windows NT 3.5.1 and 4.0 Windows 95 Installation ============ The installation is in three parts: 1. Omnis software. The Omnis Studio software must be installed from a CD-ROM into a folder called 'Omnis24' This part is licenced, and costs real money. This first time you start the software you will be asked for a serial number, which you should received from me. 2. Oracle SQL*Net networking software. This is needed to allow your Omnis client to communicate with the Oracle server in Geneva. This is also licenced software, although many institutes have a site licence for Oracle, which allows SQL*Net to be used there for free. 3. SCT_DB library and datafile. This is the program (sct_db5_43.lbr) that implements the SCT construction database and local cache (sct_db5_43.df1). They should be kept together in the same folder. On installation, the database will be just a 'skeleton', containing only some basic definitions. It is possible to download the full database from the Oracle server in Geneva, and to send your new data back to the server. The latest version of the SCT_DB library can be downloaded from the World Wide Web at this URL: http://www.hep.man.ac.uk/groups/atlas/SCTdatabase/Database.html The library and datafile should be kept in the Omnis24 folder. The SCT_DB distribution also contains a file of special icons (Userpic.df1) which should replace the file of the same name in the Icons folder the first time the software is installed.
