The primary and over riding goal of this role is to ensure proper delivery of UK obligations under the terms of the EU contract and on behalf of PPARC/GridPP. A secondary but equally important aim is to ensure an ongoing role in DataGrid which fits well with both the UK abilities/skills/wishes as well as with UK resources, thus maximising benefits to GridPP.
The EU DataGrid–UK Project Leader
- represents GridPP/PPARC interests on the DataGrid Project Management Board and acts on behalf of GridPP in this context.
- ensures proper engagement of the UK Particle Physics Grid programme in technical areas of DataGrid and monitors progress through direct involvement in the technical programmes of both DataGrid and GridPP.
- ensures the UK is fully aware of international activities that surface in the execution of DataGrid and ensures that the UK becomes engaged in them as appropriate.
- manages UK resources necessary to ensure delivery of the UK obligations to DataGrid and in particular takes direct management responsibility for the EU funded effort.
- co-ordinates UK link/liaison effort within each specific DataGrid workpackage and oversees the operation of Computer Science Fellowships active on DataGrid.
- reports on DataGrid regularly to PPARC and GridPP.
- reports on GridPP regularly to DataGrid (via the DataGrid PMB).
- maintains a regular reporting structure within the UK (technical and administrative) necessary for EU reports
- monitors progress and informs GridPP of DataGrid developments through regular open technical meetings.
- covers relations between DataGrid and other sciences in the UK (notably earth observation and bio-sciences) and between DataGrid and the various UK e-Science centres.
- manages relations with the PPARC Associate Contractors (IBM-UK and SZTAKI in Hungary).
