Introduction
The University of Glasgow Particle Physics group, in association with SSERC and the University of Edinburgh, is delighted to provide cloud chamber kits for loan to schools. The cloud chamber workshop provides a practical activity that is particularly suited to the Particles and Waves section of the Curriculum for Excellence Higher Physics. Each kit contains 10 sets, for a class of 20, and includes everything required, including dry ice. Teachers are asked to attend a CPD training session, and thereafter are able to book the kits via this website.
Booking and practicalities
Booking requests are made via this website and confirmed by email. Around one week's notice is normally required. Kits are normally available for collection from Glasgow or Edinburgh Universities on Monday to Thursday, for use in school the following day (owing to the limited shelf-life of the dry ice). When selecting dates, please also consider when you will be able to return the kit and request it for long enough - the booking should start from the day you will collect the kit, and go on until the day you are planning to return it.
